Continuing with the Smoke Shack Tour 2010 at Breckenridge Ski resort, we start with some news, Rafael’s Shack according to Ski Patrol and Mountain Safety has been taken down. There are still many smoke shacks easily accessible from the Mercury Chair, Beaver Run Chair, and E-Chair at Breckenridge. E-Chair is now open, so take a right off the chair and enter the windows to find the Windows Smoke Shack.
The windows begins with a traverse, which is all down hill, and not to bad for snowboarders searching for the shack. There really isn’t much searching involved when High Country Caregiver provides precise coordinates in this fancy Google Map to your popular places to puff and ride. The Windows are numbered, 1 – 4 consecutively, and Window 3 is what you want to look for when searching out the Windows shack. The smoke shack is near the bottom of the run, and really can’t be missed, it’s large. The Windows are steep, deep, lots of trees, and other challenges make this a shack for the worthy who know what to do with their snowboards and know how it’s worth riding through the trees to find a great place to puff while skiing.
Windows has undergone it’s revisions over the years, but has never been torn down. The on mountain ski smoke spot features a large foyer entrance, seating for about 10 and room for at least 20 more standing. There is a loft which one can climb up into which furnishes a window in case you’d like a better view of where you’re at while you puff and ride. The Window’s Shack sees tons of traffic, so be sure to pack out your garbage. If you don’t have any weed, or hash that same traffic will of course pack your bowl or pass you a spliff, as the Windows Shack is always a great place to smoke pot and get high.
