Deputy city attorney Jay Rourke said any code would need to be enforced on a complaint basis.

Police Chief Mike Butler, meanwhile, just asked for a clear standard. Police officers don’t have to know where all the potential offenders are, he said — they just have to know how to deal with them when they find them.

“Let us know what you want to regulate, so that when we find it, we can deal with it,” Butler said.

The ACLU also defended the rights of a patient fired by Walmart this spring, however this is the first time that the ACLU is defending medical marijuana patient’s rights as a larger body.  The right to grow and use cannabis is now an American Civil liberty, not just medicine for patients.
